Testing Charlotte Team Activities for Corporate & Alumni Groups
At The Triangle Sessions, we organize local Charlotte experiences designed to bring people together. We love partnering with local businesses while helping companies make wellness a cornerstone of their culture. From ghost tours to immersive cooking experiences, here's what we've actually tested—and what's on our radar.
Our criteria: Does it spark genuine connection? Can it handle groups of 20-40 people? Does it align with wellness and community values? If you're planning a corporate retreat, team outing, or alumni event, this guide could be useful. Here's our honest take.
1. Charlotte Ghost Tour
Testing February 28, 2025 - Extended Tour
Charlotte has a surprisingly dark history, and ghost tours have become a popular way to explore the Queen City's haunted past. We're testing the extended ghost tour to see how it works for team bonding and social events. There are several excellent Charlotte ghost tour companies operating downtown—we'll be experiencing one and will update with our full review after February 28th.

What we're testing: The extended ghost tour (90 minutes) which covers additional haunted Charlotte locations beyond the standard route
Group capacity: Typically 20-40 people, but larger groups can be accommodated with multiple guides—good to know for corporate events
Price: Varies based on group size, season, and advance booking. Best to contact their group tours specialist for custom pricing.
Booking tip: Let them know what you're looking for—they can customize the experience for corporate team building, alumni groups, or social events
Why we're testing this: Ghost tours combine Charlotte history, storytelling, and walking through downtown together. The shared experience of spooky stories can be a great icebreaker—people bond over being slightly spooked together. We're curious if the extended tour provides enough content to keep corporate groups engaged, or if it's better suited for pure social events.
Charlotte ghost tour options: If you're interested in exploring Charlotte's haunted history, there are several quality operators. Queen City Ghosts offers nightly tours at 7pm and 8pm. US Ghost Adventures also runs Charlotte tours with good reviews. For a wider regional perspective, Lizzie Borden Ghost Tours covers multiple cities including Charlotte. We'll update this section with our specific experience and recommendation after our February 28th tour.

2. The Magician's Table at Blume Studios
Tested with NYU Alumni Club Charlotte
What we did: Intimate magic show with close-up illusions, mentalism, and audience participation
Group size: 12 NYU alumni attended; venue works well for 15-40 people
Price: $65 per person
Vibe: Sophisticated, mind-blowing, interactive without being awkward
Best for: Groups who want something truly unique, creating memorable shared experiences, sparking conversation
Our verdict: This was easily one of the most memorable experiences we've organized. The close-up magic genuinely stumped our group—engineers, lawyers, finance professionals all completely baffled. What made it work: it created genuine connection without forced small talk. People were comparing notes on tricks for weeks afterward. That's the kind of shared experience that actually brings people together.
Pro tip: The intimate setting at Blume Studios meant everyone could see clearly—critical for engagement. Book early; this Charlotte gem has limited availability. Perfect for alumni groups, executive teams, or client entertainment where you want to make a real impression.
3. Olde Mecklenburg Brewery - Ballantyne Location
Tested with NYU Alumni Club Charlotte
What we did: Monday evening happy hour with 20 alumni
Group size: Works great for 20-50 people
Price: Varies by package (we did pay-as-you-go)
Vibe: Casual, relaxed, authentic German beer garden atmosphere
Best for: Networking, casual team socials, groups that want flexibility, supporting local Charlotte businesses
Our verdict: This is our reliable go-to when we want to support a great local Charlotte business. The Ballantyne location has plenty of space for easy mingling—you're not crammed into a corner shouting over noise. The staff handles groups professionally, and the food is genuinely good for sharing (those German pretzels and schnitzel are crowd favorites). OMB's beer speaks for itself in Charlotte.
Why this works: Low commitment, easy for people to drop in/out, no forced activities. It's the kind of event that lets organic connections happen. We love partnering with OMB—they're a Charlotte institution that aligns with our values of supporting local.
4. Santhoshi's Kitchen - Wellness-Focused Cooking Experiences
Partnership - we help companies make wellness a cornerstone of their culture
What they offer: On-site team cooking experiences focused on Indian cuisine with integrated wellness elements
Group size: Typically 10-25 people for hands-on cooking
Vibe: Interactive, cultural, hands-on, nourishing, surprisingly meditative
Best for: Teams and companies prioritizing wellness, cultural experiences, hands-on collaboration, mindfulness initiatives
Why we partner with Santhoshi's Kitchen: This is exactly the kind of local Charlotte business we love working with. They've created team experiences that genuinely integrate wellness—not as a buzzword, but as actual practice. Here are the three formats they offer:
Spice & Balance (90 min): Teams learn to cook together while exploring the wellness properties of Indian spices—turmeric for inflammation, ginger for digestion, cumin for energy. Small groups prepare components collaboratively, then share the meal mindfully. Everyone leaves with recipe cards and spice blends to recreate at home. Perfect for companies integrating wellness into their culture.
From Kitchen to Calm (60-75 min): Hands-on cooking demo emphasizing the meditative aspects of food preparation—repetitive chopping, stirring, the ritual of cooking. Includes breathwork practice while something simmers. Great for teams learning practical stress-relief techniques they can use at home.
Taste of India (2 hours): Full immersive experience where teams rotate through stations learning different components of an Indian meal—bread-making, rice dishes, curry base. Brief wellness moments between stations (stretching while dough rises, gratitude practice before eating). Ends with communal meal and reflection. Everyone gets a recipe booklet. Best for longer retreat formats or dedicated wellness days.
Why this matters: The hands-on nature creates real collaboration without feeling forced. You're working together toward something tangible and nourishing. The cooking process makes conversation flow naturally. This is how we help companies make wellness actually meaningful—through authentic local partnerships and experiences that people remember.
5. Pins Mechanical - SouthPark
On our radar - researching for upcoming events
What it is: Duckpin bowling, vintage arcade games, food & drinks in a retro-industrial space
Group capacity: Can accommodate large groups with advance booking
Why we're interested: Retro vibe, multiple activities for different energy levels (bowling + arcade games), built-in food and drinks, SouthPark location is convenient. Another Charlotte business creating spaces for people to connect.
Planning to test: We're evaluating this for an upcoming team social. Will update after we experience it firsthand.
Other Charlotte Experiences on Our Testing List:
Escape rooms (collaborative problem-solving)
Charlotte Knights game experience
Discovery Place after-hours events
Lake Norman water activities (summer retreats)

We love partnering with local businesses that share our values—whether that's making wellness accessible, creating authentic cultural experiences, or simply providing spaces for genuine human connection.
The experiences that work best share common traits: they create natural opportunities for conversation, they're accessible to different comfort levels, and they give people something meaningful to share afterward. We'll keep updating this as we test new venues and build new partnerships. Have a recommendation for a Charlotte experience we should try? We'd love to hear it—especially if you're a local business creating spaces for people to connect.
